Enrique Gasteazoro
Communications Director
Enrique Gasteazoro is The Collaborative’s Communications Director. He enables the organisation to listen and contribute to narratives that champion the public interest in an AI field where private interests dominate. His experience across public interest media and information integrity, civil resistance, digital rights advocacy, and international development shapes his approach to structural change.
Before joining The Collaborative, Enrique led a regional media development and journalist protection programme at Internews, strengthening investigative journalism, cross-border collaboration, audience engagement, and holistic security for public interest media across Central America.
He previously chaired Access Now’s global advocacy programme, overseeing policy, communications, and engagement to advance digital rights. Between 2017 and 2022, he served as CEO of CONFIDENCIAL, a leading independent news outlet in Nicaragua, helping preserve quality journalism amid censorship, repression, and economic pressure.
Enrique is a graduate of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he contributed to research on civil resistance and information integrity, as well as Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
